I just spoke with Ryan Bundy. He hadn't heard the news and could barely speak at first. "We went there to wake people up to these types of atrocities," he said. "It was worth it."

Ryan Bundy was ultimately acquitted for his role in that armed takeover. He now lives in Bunkerville, Nev., on the family ranch. He is also running for governor.

Ryan's basic takeaway was that his takeover did exactly what it was supposed to: Bring national attention to the plight of ranchers facing — in their view — persecution from the federal government.
