OUTRAGE: A NY judge thinks that it is *unconstitutional* to prevent him from jailing a person on unaffordable bail for being too poor to pay off his suspended license. Read that again. Why NY bail reform is so critical. Judges cannot have discretion for such unnecessary cruelty.

Wow, the national archive system is letting ICE destroy records including complaints about civil rights violations and shoddy medical care in detention centers.

the most advanced available results of Iowa are still those we aggregated & compiled on this spreadsheet. Up to about 18,000 votes—still a small share of total but enough to see patterns:

In all these cases, judges really feel for the cop convicted of horrific conduct. “They’ve already been through so much. Their reputations. Their careers. Their lives ruined.” But that’s also the reality for tens of thousands of others coming through system, treated w/o feeling.

Cop convicted of planting crack on innocent couple. Given probation. Judge “swayed by how he lost his job, pension, & health.” In other words, the same consequences for people I represent jailed on bail *before conviction* that no judge ever cares about.

I'd like to see a handful of states around the country pass laws mandating that they will vote on the same day as the Iowa caucus. And some other states around the country passing the same kind of law on New Hampshire. (MN should do the latter).

Five judges, including three Supreme Court justices, believed Donnie Lance could have avoided the death penatly with better lawyering. Justice Sotomayor called his case “an egregious breakdown of basic procedural safeguards.” Georgia executed him anyway.

“The world is burning but I won’t vote for the candidate with the best environmental platform because a supporter booed someone who was smearing that candidate” is a pretty bad take.

A 12-year-old Black child playing with a toy gun in a Cleveland park was shot and killed by police, but White men wearing masks and camouflage gear can carry AK 47s into the state capitol building in Kentucky, no problem.

what's not getting enough attention: that members of the squad (and allies) are very actively campaigning for different presidential candidates—but that's in no way distracting them from working together in DC around crafting & pushing big new plans at the same time. Template.

I’m the last to demand outraged opinions on everything that happens on here, but it really feels like more ppl are freaking out over the booing Hillary thing than the expanded Muslim ban and it is frankly making me lose my fucking mind

We've raised over $1 million with an average contribution of $34. We just outraised a 15-year incumbent who got less than 1% from small dollar donations — and almost half his money from PACs like: - Amazon - Exxon - the Kochs - Raytheon - the US Chamber of Commerce - CoreCivic

That people who parleyed experience as tough on crime prosecutors into major political careers are running into difficulties from it, is undeniably a good thing, and owed in large measure to the Ferguson protest and the movement for black lives.
