Respectfully disagree. The "norm" has degenerated to the press asking questions and getting lies in response. Contribution to public information and discourse minimal or nil. Its only justification is repeated demonstration of WH mendacity.+
Honestly can’t understand the “boycott the briefing to protest lack of transparency” argument. The norm in question, which is worth preserving, is the POTUS & WH routinely submitting to public questioning on the record. It's not about content.

The value of that demonstration is far outweighed, IMO, by the damage done in giving the WH an ostensibly prestigious and plausible platform for its calculated program of disinformation.

You could ask them, every time they lie, why are they lying? Or defending lies? In fact, that should be practically the only questions that should be asked at this point. Our President and his spokespeople are lying on a consistent basis. They work for us.

The norm? Preserving? You get worked over each day with lies...It is about news, truth, and you are the reporter. What day does the press corps not show up? Your actions would be huge, where reporting bs every day is not helpful.

The boycott isn’t abt less transparency, it’s a matter of frustrations w/the utter lack of it from this WH. Their lies, inadequate q’s from press pool on important issues & the failure to hold this WH accountable leaves ppl wondering what’s the point.
