With all due respect, I can't help but think this new genre of Trump writing is all that productive. These have to be deeply awkward, difficult phone calls no matter who the president is. Absent something beyond the pale, is this really news?

I've no doubt staff have tried to talk to the president about how to approach these type of settings. Getting him to have empathy,be sincere and show real feelings is really asking a lot from this man. Compassion comes from the heart, giving yourself to someone else is not him.
