Is it just me or has anyone else learned a painful lesson about NYT polling?

Considering they did the best polls of 2018, by far, calling swing congressional districts and close senate races left and right, and got an A+ rating from 538, I think the lesson is "trust them, remembering that 100% perfect polls don't exist". PD: There was no NYT poll in '16.
