Point here is that the deterrence message is a constant. Many of the unaccompanied kids & families who came during the Obama era were also claiming asylum; they still said "Don't come." I am not saying their enforcement was anything close to similar. It was not
I think we can all agree that sending your children unaccompanied is a totally different situation than traveling with them to seek asylum. It would be helpful if a leading news publication could at least provide the context. Is that asking too much?

Audience and phrasing make this very different than Johnson's message. J.J. was simple, to parents. Pence, insulting to Lat Am leaders who know their history and implies they are encouraging the migrant flow. Will make cooperation harder for them, it's so tone deaf.
