My first preprint! Addressing: how do you compare the accuracy of quantitative measurements made with fluorescent sensors? If you're interested, please retweet and let me know if you have any suggestions/questions/comments! email: stanley[dot]ju[at]northeastern[dot]edu

I am super excited to share our new preprint on , and introduce the SensorOverlord We think this tool will be very useful to anybody trying to figure out which genetically-encoded biosensor to use Thread. 1/

this evening someone asked why I think our microscopy errors aren’t from varied individuals. I gave a confusing answer. Thinking back, it’s simple: we confirmed errors looking at single individuals. If that questioner is reading this, pls reach out so I can clarify! :)

A lot of the advances in the computational sciences has happened in the technology industry and we need to translate those into biomedical research

These papers are blowing my mind and making me reconsider my favorite method of inactivating genes in C. elegans (knocking in a premature termination codon+frameshift).

Using Nanopore to directly sequence RNA from C. elegans. This is super interesting and looks like great work--congratulations on your first first-author paper, !

Well-written paper from ’s lab this morning in . They improved their protein-protein interaction sensor. By using luciferase and rhodopsin, they were able to screen GPCR binding and detect cell-cell contact.

From those that brought you DropSeq: here’s SlideSeq, a method for high throughput RNA-seq with special resolution. I’m so excited to see what people do with this.

A well-done new preprint about iron’s role in aging worms. They show that death from low glutathione may be caused by high iron levels. They also seem to see lifespan changes that are dependent on age—not temporally scaled.

Fantastic data science learning material released by Rafael Irizarry. The openness of people like Prof. Irizarry is a big part of what makes the R community and language so powerful.

This is really nifty. This study had a solid sample and good randomization, but the methods are probabaly more impactful than the results. Would VR bias training be helpful to medical students?
