The woman behind me on this train just asked her seatmate what the word “ideology” means and I feel like this is the closest I’m ever gonna come to being able to stand up and say yes when someone calls out “Is there a doctor on the train.”

This weekend I'm reading Debating New Approaches to History. It has an engaging structure: author introduces method, followed by comment from external & author response. I thoroughly recommend the section on Gender History by Laura Lee Downs & comment Miri Rubin

The fact that UCC hid a 3000-year-old mummy under the floorboards of a lecture theatre on a campus where two and a half tonnes of uranium rods were being stored in a basement nearby and DIDN'T end up with a zombie-pharaoh apocalypse is both a mystery and endlessly disappointing.

Our team has been updating the project outcomes in preparation for the conference this week & it's remarkable to see everything that's happened across our national partners—it can be hard to notice these details when we're hard at work!

It's hard to see how this will be useful. Aside from the false positives, the politics of citation are so much more complicated than whether a reference is 'supporting, contradicting, and mentioning.'
