    Explainer on & : When a processor reaches a conditional branch in code (e.g. an 'if' clause), it tries to predict which branch will be taken before it actually knows the result. It executes that branch ahead of time - a feature called "speculative execution".

    Here's my point: 1. Materialized views are an amazing way to speed up analytics; 2. MVs come in many forms, not always CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW. 3. MVs are an ancient technique (think CREATE INDEX); 4. MVs are ever more important as data becomes heterogenous and distributed.

    To implement Datalog (and also SQL's WITH RECURSIVE) we'd need to add some kind of fixed-point operator to Calcite's logical relational algebra. What are the candidates?

    Haven't read beyond abstract here (), but "geographic awareness" is a super compelling argument for why "indexes as models" is meaningful. A function to index on the geo-atom () could be quite exciting!

    Particular applications in spatial indexes, where you have to choose between 2 approaches: data-driven & space-driven. A generated function could use data to "tune" a space-oriented index such as a hilbert curve while retaining the scalability of data-oriented.
