This is really interesting. In the US alone, pet cats and dogs consume 1/5 as much energy as the whole human population. Looking for a good way to reduce your carbon footprint? Don't get a dog.

Nearly 1 in 5 terrestrial vertebrate species is involved in the global wildlife trade. Not only does this exploitation cause higher extinction risks for many species (as this article notes), it also creates higher invasion risks for other species.

Think caecilians are slow? Think again! This is probably the only underwater footage (other than the one I uploaded a few days ago) of a semi-aquatic swimming ... and possibly the only footage of a wild caecilian swimming(?).

This is a largemouth bass attacking the mantle lure of a native mussel called the pocketbook (Lampsilis ovata). In order for this mussel species to reproduce, they have to use this mantle lure to entice fish to bite it. Video: B. Billings/ R. Hagerty, USFWS

This the Conversation article on the complexity of pest control and the challenges involved should be read by anyone involved in pest management whether it be for mitigation of damage to conservation and/or economic values.

A critique of so-called "compassionate conservation": Is it compassionate to allow invasive rats, mice, cats to injure & kill wildlife? We are responsible for introducing these predators. Shouldn't we mitigate the mess we made & prevent it from worsening?
