Universal Basic Income (UBI), with an active state, could enact a revitalized politics of redistribution, rupturing the employment-income link, offering socioecological futures where people have time for leisure, community, and democratic participation.

. report: Climate change is increasing already pervasive gender-based violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault and rape, forced prostitution, forced marriage and child marriage, as well as other forms of the exploitation of women.

In Vancouver, cultural ideas about 'good food' provided the impetus to push for regulatory change and have generated consensus around new, less restrictive regulation of food vending on streets and sidewalks.

MA suffers from zoning laws that can be the land-use equivalent of gerrymandering. Towns and cities can use zoning, height restrictions and environmental concerns to limit construction and encourage single-family houses, discouraging lower income residents

Absolutely and universities such as through departments like and schools like are uniquely placed to both facilitate discussion, lead on innovation and develop future leaders.

Thank you for telling us about Eunice Newton Foote. The first recorded person to link CO2 and global warming. She is forgotten no more! via

Few governments and transit agencies take gender (or race/income) into account in collecting ridership data. Also, they often fail to consider the traveling experience of women. Transport for London is perhaps the most forward-thinking agency in this space

Why the Happiness Principle? We are disillusioned with dominant culture and the stress people experience at every level of society. But the positive reason is, we have a science of happiness, which gives us real evidence on how to create a happier society.

Three dilemmas in local planning and implementation: 1 - Cost and benefit distribution across scales; 2 - The identification and valuation of non-market effects; and 3 - The equitable allocation of costs and benefits.

The Green New Deal does not depend entirely on the feds. Low-income communities of color have pushed local governments to reduce GHGs in while also addressing inequality and public health. These climate change experiments have been all-out street fights.

. - We're building cities to invest in, not to live in: When homes become more important as assets than as dwellings, when security is prioritised over community, children's use of communal playspaces is seen as an unwelcome intrusion.

Absolutely. But to my knowledge, Paris doesn’t have such a complete history of racist zoning, urban planning and redlining in the urban core. The banlieues are a different matter.

Temps in formerly redlined and non-redlined neighborhoods within cities differ by up to 12.6°F. Study is the first to examine the link between historical, racist housing policies/urban planning and disproportionate exposure to current deadly heatwaves.
