Y'know, upon reflection I think a big problem for me with the OP was the tone, especially in "Either you're in or in the way. Let's go!" It seems to portray the SV techno-optimists as embattled, like the skeptics are standing in their way...

... whereas my impression is that, yes, the critics/pessimists are annoying. But overall society is incentivizing people to go into tech (with $/status), not the other way around.

I was just having this same thought a few minutes ago - I'm starting to wonder if a large % of disagreements just boil down to this. I see this a lot in the debates over whether women or men are treated more unfairly by pop culture / the media.

I encounter a lot of tech cheerleading in my corners of Twitter/Real Life, so it doesn't seem like a very marginalized view to me. But probably the tech cheerleaders would reply that the reason they feel the need to cheerlead is because the world in general is so anti-tech.
