clothing is expensive, clothing is labor intensive, i will never judge anyone for not being able to afford a $500 piece but if you care about ethically acquiring clothing and you hate fast fashion you HAVE to get your head around the alternate being that clothing costs a lot https://t.co/rxKMQl6nHM

Just because you can't afford something, doesn't mean it's wrong to cost what it does. It doesn't mean it's unethical to cost what it does. Creating something costs money and time and labor. It's ethical to pay the creators* what they deserve.

*And, for clarity, I don't mean couture/creative directors, I mean indie artisans and like, SEAMSTRESSES. The people who creative the clothing/product.

Oh my last thought on this is that this also doesn't mean that expensive mass produced clothing is inherently ethical, capitalism has made a huge mess of this for all of us and there's not a perfect answer as to how to navigate it, do your best to be conscientious

I’m not super interested in adding to this thread but yes, of course thrifting is a great option, and using things until they wear out is an option, and none of these solve ALL problems with clothing (plus size thrifting can be a trip, for instance)
