Julia Carrie Wong Retweeted Gov. Pete Ricketts

I really don’t think it can be emphasized enough that a major political party in the United States has declared an idea to be un-American and is using every available lever of government - and they control many of them - to ban it.https://twitter.com/GovRicketts/status/1404980763557347334 …

Critical race theory is an attack on our country’s core values.

I wrote this less than a month ago and at the time I felt a bit torn about whether to include my interview with Paweł Machcewicz, the historian fired by the Polish government for trying to tell the truth about WWII.https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/25/critical-race-theory-us-history-1619-project?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other …

The US and Poland are very, very different, Paweł Machcewicz said. But he also had a warning. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/25/critical-race-theory-us-history-1619-project?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other …pic.twitter.com/AdYnkesoKi

“Democracy turned out to be very fragile,” Machcewicz said. “I knew history was important for Law and Justice, but it became a sort of obsession. I never thought that as a founding director of a museum of the second world war, I would become a public enemy.”

“You never know what price you have to pay for independent history,” he added. “I don’t think it will ever go as far in the US as Poland, but some years ago, I also felt quite secure in my country.”

Just to add, and no disrespect to actual CRT scholars, but fighting over the definition of critical race theory is not the way out of this. Swap "Black Lives Matter" for "critical race theory" every time you see it and everything makes more sense. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/25/critical-race-theory-us-history-1619-project …pic.twitter.com/stYARw4LRg

Laats suspects that the right is using “critical race theory” as a euphemism. “You can’t go to a school board and say you want to ban the idea that Black Lives Matter.

As with all things that fear-based people try to ban, this will simply make more people more interested in critical race theory. Ban away...it won't work.

Do you think that the claim that some people are born to be slaves is a pernicious and un-American idea that should be banned from school? If you do, then you don't disagree that some ideas should be banned from schools. You just disagree about the content of the ideas.

This is Kafka-esque anti-logic, and no one but Republicans are fooled by it. Give it up and find a new grift.
