Agreed completely. One of my brothers once said to me: "I fucked up. I paid the price. I did my time. I want to give something back. I want to do good. I want to feel like I'm a person again. But it feels like I have to pay for this crime forever. I am a felon, forever."

I'm so proud of him. He couldn't get work w regular employment, so he made his own business (with some help/support) and even testified in ME state legislature about removing the "felon box" from interview applications, due to its discriminatory nature. Giving back to the cmmty!

Good on your brother!! Congrats to him!

Yes, that should be the case. It isn’t in the US. Thank private prisons for that.

Is there any evidence of a prison system that successfully rehabilitates? It’s just not an environment that is conducive to rehabilitation. If rehabilitation was truly the dominant goal, aren’t there a lot of other ways we could spend that money to achieve it?
