so I go back to my original point - people who think they’re at risk of extradition don’t tend to travel to countries with extradition treaties but even putting that aside for one minute - It took the US 7 years to submit an extradition request. This is important.

It’s important because, in the 7 years between Holder announcing investigation and Trump administration submitting his request, my dude could’ve gone to Sweden, faced trial, possibly been found guilty, done his time and dusted off to Moscow.

*deep breath* IN CONCLUSION. Obviously the extradition request from the US is wrong. But it is only currently actionable due to decisions taken by Julian Assange for Julian Assange and nobody else. Only he knows why he travelled here if he feared extradition.

Only he knows why, when the European Arrest Warrant was issued by Sweden, he thought the UK would resist any extradition requests more than Sweden would. A UK that was under the helm of David Cameron at that.

All these things are unknown. What is known is that he skipped bail after sexual assault charges, and in the time he spent hiding from said charges the US went ahead with the thing he feared most and now the country he thought was a better bet than Sweden wants to send him there.

Assange defenders are a strange strange breed.

It's perfectly consistent to think Assange is a horrible guy, and that those who publish whistleblower accounts shouldn't be prosecuted. He's not being extradited to the US because he's a rapist.
