    The older I get, the more “that’s an ad hominem fallacy” gets replaced in my vocabulary by “life is short, information is scarce, and it’s a useful heuristic to believe that known liars are lying, known trolls are trolling, known untrustworthy people aren’t to be trusted.”

        Certainly courts recognize the “ad hominem fallacy” as a valid method of finding truth. The admissibility of criminal records which indicate dishonesty is a good example.
