I'm so excited seeing the caliber and builder spirit behind student rocket projects these days. They are bold and fearless in what they'll attempt to make. It's empowering for a young engineer to get to see a liquid rocket engine as just another machine.

I had to get a background check for my job, and it turns out the report is a 300+ page pdf of every single tweet I’ve ever liked with the work “fuck” in it. Enjoy your dystopian bs! *waves*

So, annual US cocaine consumption is 300,000kg. Cocaine HCl is water soluble at 2.5 g/mL. 3/4" PVC pipe is rated at 23gpm. You could pump the entire annual US cocaine supply through a very small PVC pipe in less than 24 hours.

Semi-serious question. Given that essentially all illegal drugs have viable solvents that would allow easy downstream recovery by evaporation, why don't we see literal drug pipelines? High throughput for small diameter, much easier to install, much harder to detect.

I've tweeted this before, but a fellow student, an electrical engineer, asked me back in 2005 why I was going into the space industry when it was "a dying field". SpaceX is the reason that perception has died instead.

Crap. Now at 1 in 20 chance of these two satellites colliding this evening at 23:39:35 UTC (18:39:35 EST) almost directly Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This is seriously alarming. Those sats -- if they hit -- would be at 900km, scattering debris well above and below that altitude.

A Firefly spokesperson told me over the phone they couldn’t comment but did say no one was hurt. Earlier in the day they tweeted about a launch. The tweet has since been taken down.

Firefly had a tweet earlier showing LOX load in prep for “first Alpha Stage 1 Qual hotfire”. I hope no one was injured! Stands and stages can be rebuilt.

For those of us that worked on the early phases, that desperately wanted to build the hardware, and that believed in the program, this is one more slap in the face from . But it's also not a surprise. This was written on the wall the second they were given Phase 2.

Interesting that Turkey has the second largest number of votes for the rover name. Wonder if that's just an anomaly or if NASA is unusually popular in Turkey.
