We all wish we could do all this with trees, but DAC has some key advantages: It doesn't compete with food production. We can reliably account for how much we've removed (sorry, can't say that w/ soil & trees). You don't lose hard-won progress with every major forest fire.

This is really cool and to be welcomed - any thoughts on why Microsoft are doing this now? Just being good corporate citizens, or is there a sense that they are positioning for future tax or regs? Or is there some business model for it?

It's pure speculation, but I do think there's a growing recognition that there's a very real & fast growing problem here. Smart, farsighted businesses w/ the capacity to make these changes & investments can benefit competitively, financially, in public perceptions + in hiring.

If "storage" is part of the new CCS technology, could we please start with developing the storage piece, and store all the exhaust being emitted in the most polluted zip code in Michigan, 48217, underground or wherever it is supposed to be stored? The reasons are obvious.
