A private company has every right to do as they see fit, but these companies are publishers nowadays, and in a day and age where the internet is used for the communication of any and all ideas, any censorship is vile.

Wrong--still a private company. Online or not. Breitbart discerns what the will and will not publish--this is no different.

Um, so you agree that YouTube is a publisher just like Breitbart, then? Not just a platform? AWESOME!! That's the exact argument conservatives are making, glad you agree!!

And the argument is? Publishers are free to publish what they want—Youtube is no different

Youtube claims to be a Platform not a Publisher. If they change their Company to a Publisher no one will have an issue. People just want Youtube to be honest with what they are doing.

Platform or no-they are still a private entity and can ban certain content if they wish.

Not necessarily, the Supreme Court (TBS v. FCC 1994) has held that the first amendment “does not disable the government from taking steps to ensure that private interests not restrict . . . the free flow of information and ideas.”

Interesting read. Thank you for that. It also says that a broadcasting company can't use it's right/protection of free speech to abrogate another's same right. And that this ruling was made in consideration of competition, rather than content.

Well now one could argue that there is a new competition in the form of advertiser friendly content as chosen by Youtube. Demonetization and blacklisting content could be considered a competitive violation in the market place of ideas.

But it all comes down to how we define Youtube. Is Youtube a "Broadcasting Company" (A Media Platform) Or is it a Publisher?

Youtube gets to define itself.
