Exciting new Assistant Professor opportunity for an environmental social scientist at the University of Hawaii! is a great department within the land grant college with passionate students and an interdisciplinary, applied focus.

Ah yes, I'm very worried about CGD's funding from the UK, Australia, Norway, and Canada! (I understand concerns around foreign policy influence by countries with their own agendas, but come on, this graphic is ridiculous.)

You'll rarely find a sudden stop in employment growth like what you find in retail around 2017.

Retail apocalypse is real. It's amazing what a sudden stop in retail employment growth it produced nationally.

Finally! “But Peter Groffman, a soil ecologist at the City University of New York, says ... “The earthworms are in the soil because the soil is healthy,” he says. “They are not necessarily doing anything for it.””

Somehow it just hits home more when this happens to a total stranger who looks like they’re doing great.

Recently found out that the PhD student with the best JMP I’ve seen this year—someone I don’t know personally, isn’t in my field, & didn’t apply to our opening—is struggling to find a job. Important reminder that there is a lot of randomness and unfairness in labor markets.

Thread: Apologies if this is tiresome, but I feel obligated to respond to a recent thread by , head of a philanthropic foundation that funds many people I respect, publicly asserting my work with is “unfair” and “misleading”.

Could someone please write a "Does the WTO cure cancer?" version of the below structural adjustment paper? Just get their replication data and slap on a list of country-year DVs and run the analysis over all of them

In 1963, the US military shot 480 *million* copper needles into space to...improve radio communications? Anyway they never used them.

Ha! Signal received, with delay :) Yeah, there is a simple solution to give an equivalent formula: (1/p) + (1/p)^2 + (1/p)^3 + (1/p)^4

Love that Google docs is now fully broken unless you use Google's (terrible) proprietary browser. Google = the new Microsoft confirmed.

I really loved how WGAPE works. Everybody reads all papers in advance. There is a very short introduction to the paper (5 minutes) then 30-60 of discussion and suggestions. Very helpful and friendly.
