Yo: Apple Music has some definite problems, but automatically deleting music off your Mac is not one of them.http://www.imore.com/no-apple-music-not-deleting-tracks-your-hard-drive-unless-you-tell-it …

@settern It’s possible there is also a bug in iTunes that is deleting files. It may be just confusion, or there may also be another vector?

@jsnell We’re looking into the bug side, but there doesn’t appear to be an issue. (Also, were it a bug, why hasn’t it affected more?)

@settern @jsnell what about the scenario of removing the music from library on IOS device. Does that go and delete files on the Mac?

        4. Serenity Caldwell ‏@settern May 5

@mscanlon @jsnell Nope, that should just remove from iOS device and (possibly) remove from iCloud, but master files remain on master device.

@settern @mscanlon @jsnell what if the Mac isn't the master device?

@riking27 @mscanlon @jsnell Secondary devices with no master files get iCloud files by default. No deletions needed. How it works.

@jsnell @settern but even with the "Remove Download" button, it only moves the file to the trash, iTunes never deletes directly.

@jsnell @settern so if there was such a nasty bug in iTunes or even via confusion, it should still be in the trash?

        3. Jason Snell ‏@jsnell May 5

@rosyna @settern people empty their trash all the time w/o looking in it, though.

@jsnell @settern Yeah, but not noticing 122GB of data being deleted (with thousands of files)?

@jsnell @settern (Emptying the trash with all that shows a progress dialog that takes forever to finish)

@jsnell @settern when you set up iCloud Music Library even on a Mac there's a "replace" option

@jsnell @settern I'm betting it's confusion over what is happening.

@jsnell @settern I think they’re making the tool do too many conflicting things, and end up with bad anti-patterns because no good choices.
