since this will come up a lot in media coverage of Tyre Nichols in Memphis: while I get that it seems narratively significant that the officers are black. Statistically, it is unsurprising. In tracking police violence, we never found that race of the officer made much difference

1. Don’t create “elite” police units who get special privileges, less oversight, and get to take shortcuts. 2. Definitely don’t give those units names like “Scorpion.” 3. The cops who really, really want to work on those units are the last cops who should be working on them.

I’m getting word from several people that the Tyre Nichols video is bad. Like… worse than we’ve seen in a long time, and that’s saying something. A reminder that you can turn off video Auto-Play in your Settings. You don’t owe anyone anything. You don’t have to watch.

I was in the middle of writing a tweet about how that "take Natural Woman off Spotify" page is clearly trolling/doing some volunteer cointelpro, but I see they just admitted it 🙄

BREAKING (1/3) 🇧🇷 Bolsonaristas are leading a violent insurrection in the capital Brasilia, ransacking their way to the Congress, Supreme Court, and Presidential Palace. The @ProgIntl stands with @LulaOficial against these acts of terror and in defense of democracy in Brazil.

I wrote this article a few years ago where I detailed the socio-political climate that led to the wounded knee massacre from a Lakota perspective settlers were TERRIFIED of Lakota resistance organized through ceremony which eventually led to more acts of colonial violence

A genre of tweet I'd love to leave behind in 2022 is: "you're not [this diagnosis or way of better understanding yourself], you're just [this other thing I'm more comfortable sh*tting on]"

Things I’ve learned from research I’ve done on diversity: 1. Companies “diversity hire” entry level. 2. They provide no path/training/mentoring to move up. 3. Chief Diversity Officer positions come with no power or budget. 4. Employers are proud of all this “inclusiveness.”

"Count him among those who are inventing civilization’s future" I would think this should increase not decrease the scrutiny you receive? But maybe that's just me

While casting shade on @elonmusk for what he’s done, is doing, or will do, try to pause & remember that he made electric cars a normal thing in society and he commercialized space — for cargo, satellites, & people. Count him among those who are inventing civilization’s future.
