Rust is now a first-class server-side language at Meta. Supporting a programming language at Meta is a long and careful process, and including Rust is a testament to the qualities of the language. I am proud of our team that made this possible.

1982: I wrote Alien Attack, my first game, on an Atari 400, in BASIC. It had a custom character set for the alien (one at a time) and your spaceship. I advertised it in the Popular Computing Weekly classifieds for £5, for a week. Not much of a campaign. I sold zero copies.

I'm delighted that we're finally able to open source Glean, the system we're building at Facebook for collecting and querying information about code:

Copilot is very tech demo at the moment, but it will only get better. But "better" will be DeepDream for code. Horrifying code. Code which looks reasonable at first glance and more more eldrich as you look at it.
Basically you can start your project as a legacy enterprise stack.

New post! "What Can Coerce, and Where, in Rust," describing all of Rust's possible coercions and where they can happen. Includes discussion of subtyping and variance, the safety of converting raw pointer types, and language standardization! possiblerust.com/guide/what-can #rustlang

But not *only* Rust - the great thing about Buck v2 (like v1) is that it supports unified dependency graphs across arbitrary languages, so you can compose one system out of Rust, C++, Python, ... where all the languages have equal footing as far as the build system goes.

I'm very excited about Buck v2. It's written in Rust, and also great for Rust tooling.

We are hiring engineers and managers to work on LLVM, Rust, BOLT, JEmalloc, zstd, low-level c++ libraries and other cool stuff. DM me if you are interested. We require a U.S. work permit.

It's just so inspiring to see a studio want to polish a game this much, they're literally seeing faults in something so minor that I can't even perceive the problem.

Sure blockchains are still searching for a genuine problem to solve and NFTs are that problem de jour, but the most annoying thing to me is that fungibility is one of the true interesting technical properties of the tech. Without it you've just got Expensive Git.

I basically resent having to run any Python cli tool to find out something as part of my day to day. They are almost invariably slow, do weird things when you get bored and ^C them, don’t use the terminal well.
If you’re not writing Rust cli for the masses gtfo

People think the most confusing differences between British and American English are words like "biscuit" or "pants" or "chips" but in actual fact it's "John Lewis."
