I am super excited to join today, leading the software team that builds tooling to enable 'silicon at the speed of software'. Chip design is challenging, and needs open tools that are well designed, easy to use, and state of the art. More at:

IBM's early business computers such as the IBM 1401 (1959) used 6-bit BCD characters not bytes. Math was in decimal, not binary. One consequence is it had 4000 characters of memory, not 4096. Photo: I wrote a Mandelbrot program on it; tricky because it doesn't have floating point

This is 🤯 using historical data to predict container performance and using cgroups to control CPU placement. CFS makes an attempt at all of these things (except using PMCs to guide placement) but it’s always going to be imperfect because...

I always think of std::vector::size() as cheap. As in, it just reads the size member, or something. Of course, I'm wrong. size() is always all that cheap. In principle, it involves a division, although the compiler will likely strength reduce it a constant multiply, etc.

Windows 7 is due to reach EOL today. However, a large number of the systems, most in corporate environments, are still running the Win7. So I decided to advance my agenda of pushing the Linux desktop during the conversation. It went to /dev/null. O well, I tried my best.
