In 2015, Chicago passed a historic reparations ordinance for survivors of police torture under Burge. In 2020, we will work to get $ for a memorial and a fully funded center. Can you help us make sure the city follows through on its promise?

My editorial team and I have spent months weighing whether or not we want to publish an article about sexism on the left. Our conversation always boils down two questions: Is the inevitable backlash and harassment worth it? Can we protect the person who writes the piece?

Watching people’s Don Imus tweets is a reminder that for so many white Americans racism is an incidental side-issue that says nothing about someone you like’s character but rather is just an unfortunate opinion to be overlooked and not rudely dwelled upon.

1854 Harriet Tubman stole away her three brothers from slavery in Maryland. Christmas Day was a strategic time for fugitivity. The merrymaking of slave owners made it an opportune time to slip away. Creative escape. 🎄. 👏🏾📚✍🏾👏🏾

“Choose your leaders with wisdom and forethought. To be led by a coward is to be controlled by all that the coward fears. To be led by a fool is to be led by the opportunists who control the fool. To be led by a thief is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen...”
