The top~400 Youtubers get way more (because they get competition for ads) than the rest in proportion to their views. I know @TeamYouTube @SusanWojcicki and @nealmohan are working on this, and from what I hear it's hard because after a certain popularity they can't get good data.
The origin of this thread is that success does not directly correlate with revenue. The story and legacy of the success poor can be published regardless of retention rates.
