Yeah and if I followed over 5,000 people on Twitter I'd probably see a bunch of crap that had nothing to do with my interests too. If I don't like what someone tweets, I don't follow them. That's how social media works. The algorithm starts with the data you give it.
I think I can make the biggest difference by helping @SusanWojcicki and @TeamYouTube know when their recommendation engine is trying to recruit me to be a nazi because I want to monitor the extent to which nazis recruit on with their service

If you're really actively working with Youtube then sure. My point is most people don't do that, for a variety of reasons, so the next best thing they can do is pay attention to what they're clicking on.
