Just here to say to say particularly to women: prioritize your fucking writing because no one else will and lots of people will actively work to deprioritize it that is all

  3. And that rising, that motion, that pleasure leads me to think that maybe one day there will be such a thing as Deaf music, a pure connection between vibration and ASL (or anyone’s native sign) unmediated by any dependency on English or hearing people’s words. It’s a fun thought.

  4. For me silhouettes gave me access to the bass and drums, electronic and classical beats I liked. Yes, the volume had to be so high that music leaked out of my hearing aids, which once caused me to be attacked from behind. But whatever. Sometimes my hands would rise and move.

  5. Gallaudet has the cheer. Deaf people (and alas some hearing people) have an obsession with song translations. We do better when we base our signing on our own perceptions of music rather than attempting to translate hearing perceptions of music into a Deaf experience.

  6. People assume Deaf people don’t hear. I challenge this notion. I think the truth is closer to, we have a different relationship to sound and vibration. If Deaf people lived in an isolated civilization, I suspect we’d have a very nuanced kind of bass-based music.

  7. I’m missing my hearing aid silhouette today. Not many discuss this technology which works with hearing aids to convey digital sound. Despite being superdeaf these have always worked for me. But my last one broke and I can’t find good ones online anymore.

  10. Note that twitter great for sociopolitical discussions, memes, not so great for photo printing advice. I love it anyway.

  11. Here’s a question. What’s the best photoprinting app or company BASED ON FINAL PRODUCT? I’m tired of cheap feeling overly thin results. Everyone says they have high quality prints but what that means is high DPI printing not necessarily printing on good materials. Help Twitter!

I’m frustrated this evening bc White PD educators continue in colonizer activity. So all of a sudden ur an equity, diversity, and inclusivity trainer?! So u steal material, woefully package it, and charge HUNDREDS an hour PER PERSON?! Please drop your problematic faves ASAP.

  14. A5: We have free ASL classes for families and try to provide childcare - it can be expensive but the product is worth it for children. We also try to connect families with services like which provides some free lessons online.

  15. A3 If your school has a PTA take advantage of it. As an admin I enjoy going to KPTA meetings and discussing parent thoughts and concerns. Casual conversations and relationship building can help inform curricular decidions surprisingly well!

  16. A1 One thing we did this year was simple - invite VP agencies to be at our school on the first day so new parents had the opportunity to provide Deaf children (and their families) with communication tools. Some hearing families had no idea VPs existed.

  17. A2: Yes! Inviting parents in for read alouds, to share their unique cultures and more. We want to engage more parents who are still developing signers. Always look for opportunities to grow our communities!
