Things are going too well so we make hot button issues out of nothing. Sociologically, it was "why are white guys going to the space" in the 50s and 60s - we just have new targets now and a multi-ethnic coalition of the disaffected. Listen to Heron's "Whitey on the moon."

Too well?

As long as they aren’t using taxpayer money to do it, who cares? It may be wasteful, it may ultimately be helpful. But I don’t think it should be paid for or subsidized in any way by taxpayers.

"who cares"? They are in a rare position to put massive amounts of resources to use. Wasting it like this certainly does matter.

If you hate billionaires, wouldn't you want them off this planet?!?

Let’s be honest, what they really mean is encapsulated in the first three words.

This is kind of a bad faith interpretation. IDK if anyone is saying that billionaires shouldn’t be going to space. People see Bezos’ trip as a symbol of increasing wealth inequality. He’s wealthy enough to spend $$ on rec. space flight while paying very little in taxes.

People making the "humans should not be sent into space (especially rich humans)" argument are using a "false dilemma" to make a case for removing the ability of entrepreneurs to make investments in businesses they don't favor.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_dilemma …
