After the latest round of 'Keir Starmer says something disappointing' here's a reminder that the role of the leader of the opposition isn't to stroke the egos of highly politicized left-wingers (of which I am one), but to win power and change the world.

This doesn’t mean going Blue Labour. It means talking to people about the things that matter to them. Building a coalition, then getting s*** done.

I live and work with these people. They are winnable if you listen to them but the policies that get through to them are left wing policies. Performative right wing BS on the other hand alienates them because it's performative and they are, shockingly, actually political.

tbh the Labour figure who has been very active in calling for more support for the self-employed has been (checks notes) John McDonnell, while the one who's been posting kneeling selfies has been Keir Starmer?
-
yes, a thin line to walk for many (me included) but Jonathan: 1. you convinced that Starmer would have won a Brexit election that Corbyn had to fight? 2. what's the problem w activists keeping pressure on their party leader, a sport many indulged in during the previous regime?

Starmer did take the knee, Corbyn and McDonnell had policies that would help this guy, and you're assuming (because he's white and poor?) that this man doesn't care about racial justice.
