For those who are wondering, this was our winner. His name is Gregg, which probably explains why he's a good speller. He won with 'aardwolf.' Yes, that's a real thing and not a Napoleon Dynamite drawing. The red hat is for the Scandihoovian Festival. That's a whole other storypic.twitter.com/fli18WXl7i
Thanks everybody! Because your words will help me create word lists for future bees, which was not my intention with the original tweet but seems like a good idea now.
I don’t remember the word I went out in the spelling bee, but do remember having to spell corn and wondering if it was a trick word. My first spelling word I missed in 2nd grade was been. Still remember that.
I remember bringing a book home in 3rd grade or so and my mom worried it was too hard for me. She pointed to a word in it. "Nonchalant" I said (nonchalantly of course). She smiled, turned to my dad and said, 'That little shit.'
6th grade it was “enough” after spelling “rhinoceros” & “psychedelic” & many others correctly to qualify to be on stage in front of the entire school, mind went totally blank....you guessed it “enuff”. Total stage fright & embarrassment which I remember almost 50 years later.
that's the half of it -- it's not just if you know how to spell it. it's what you do when you're standing there. I tip my hat to the grown-ups (and kids at school) who do this
I won my bee.
Woo hoo!
Constitution
That would be a tricky one to spell out loud
