New from and me: The app that caused so much chaos in Iowa had another problem — it was so insecure that vote totals and other information could have been intercepted or changed. Experts say the errors were basic, called it "total amateur hour"

My take. This was a tech failure that was so basic its unforgivable. “If the mistake was simple, the consequences are disastrous, because they go to confidence — the reliability of our democratic processes." via

I love how the conventional wisdom has started to set in that Bernie and Pete have had a good night even though we know almost literally nothing more about the actual results than we did 2 hours ago.

Hundreds of man-hours invested, millons of dollars spent on organizing and advertising and programming, and the prevailing takeaway for posterity will be administrative incompetence with no clear winner. What a waste, for these candidates and their staffs and volunteers.

At this point, it's been 3.6 hours since the start of the caucuses and 1.9% of precincts have reported results, which extrapolates out to knowing the results in a mere 189 hours, which would be at 9:30 pm next Tuesday, after voting in the NH primary has already closed.

Of all the things Democrats are worried about tonight like who’s going to win, the process is taking so long, etc. it’s a low turnout that should worry them the most. After over a year of campaigning voters aren’t excited like they were in 2008

A phone app programmed by a small shop for a single purpose, which isn't vetted by the outside, world might be buggy. Might not be intuitive. It was probably a dumb idea to use it, and plenty of people said that before tonight, but that doesn't suggest anything's hacked.

I’ll tell you this, the attendance counter app *may* have failed but having personally witnessed the entire caucus process, the votes themselves are recorded, backed up by paper records, and were certified by multiple witnesses. We WILL have reliable results-eventually

A system where the vote is taken literally by having people stand around in groups is apparently being disrupted by a software failure.
