Fun fact $25k is about the estimate for a full retrofit of a social housing dwelling. Solar, battery, heat pump, insulation...the lot. Cost savings, health benefits, greater social equity.

Good list! I'd add a bit more for wall-cavity and underfloor insulation (although won't need those where houses share walls). A lot of brick veneer places have high rates of airflow between the bricks and the plaster - means the only insulation is 10mm of plasterboard

For sure, some are in such bad condition

Plus the rebates available in most states around Australia for energy efficiency upgrades would knock another 10-15% off these prices!

I would skip the battery, get 6kw of solar for $7k, that's what we have & we don't pay for electricity. Spend the savings on a rebate for a more efficient fridge, water tanks that flush the loo, and external blinds on west facing windows. Or maybe a few double glazed windows.

Mate, you have missed the point. All that can be done in a day = virtually no job creation. 150k-750k constructions create way more emolument than batteries and solar panels from China that ta a few hours to install.

Not saying they shouldn’t do that stuff too, but I’m no way is that a substitute for the building stimulus. Probably would create 1/100th the number of hours of labour.

If we removed the cost power not only to housing commission homes but to all government buildings by going solar with batteries, it cuts greenhouse gas emissions, the gov spends less running buildings and low income houses have more $ to buy necessities & feed themselves/economy

I'm sure this is too close to the great Pink Batts policy. Gotta make sure private contractors don't cut corners.
