I’ve definitely been guilty of a lot of these things in the past, and they’ve largely been projections of my own insecurities about socializing and drinking. If anything, Dry January taught me to be more mindful of those who don’t drink on a regular basis.

Sounds like a possible defense mechanism that kicks in when they themselves know it’s probably a good idea to reduce alcohol consumption. Pattern familiar to vegans/vegetarians around some meat eaters.

yeah it’s definitely not the jeering peer pressure and taunting of college years, more of a subtle, more refined teasing.

I'm always taken aback when someone asks me, usually in a group setting, why I don't drink. There are many answers to that question, and most are very personal.

To me, it's on the order of asking someone what the pills they just took at lunch are for.
