I have seen people use it @ 15K ft on a mountaineering trip even when they had cash. Heck even I had done it. Because at that height many things are more valuable than hard cash (obviously up to a reasonably high number).

I used knitting yarn as “money” back in 1991, when I was a student in Moscow. Still have a sweater made of some if that very yarn. I guess, it’s my “savings” component?

Friedman was a great populariser of free-market economics. ‘Free to Choose” is a great intro to the school of thought. 👍
