1/x - News: I'll be married soon! 🍾 And while future Mrs Moose enjoys sticking it to corrupt self-serving politicians almost as much as I do, there are new life priorities. It's time to retire from Sunshine on a high note. This has been a blast! My wrap up plans...

"I have been impacted by a layoff." Why would you write this sentence on LinkedIn. Some strange combo of passive voice and weirdspeak. BE DIRECT. ARghhHH

imo ai accelerationists on twitter have it all wrong — every cosmic force points towards acceleration. technocapital demands it, the curiosity of mankind demands it, competition between nations and companies demands it. there’s like 20 alignment people standing athwart history

Next few months are going to be crazy/amazing in AI. People outside the field have no idea what's about to come. Importantly, no amount of people whining trying to put the brakes on R&D is going to be able to stop it, b/c it'll proliferate so easily. Embrace it. 😊

Always amused by the hate Pelosi gets, not from Republicans, but from Democrats or Left or whatever. More Surgical effectiveness and fewer whiny b/s speeches is a good thing. More of her type of politics on "your" side is a good thing.

I see tech people getting laid off saying they spent over a decade at a company but don't have a bunch of promotions. Why be loyal to a company that doesn't give you constant growth in comp and scope...

I sat down virtually w/ at KQED to talk about my "career" as a Sunshine muckraker, the nerdy reasons I did it initially, what I've learned and so on, now that I'm retiring. A necessarily condensed version of 2 hours of discussion:

Human police already have broad immunity from responsibility under the doctrine of qualified immunity. Imagine the complete lack of govt accountability when the State can say well the *robot* executed a bystander, and no specific human officer will even stand trial.
Quote Tweet
Under this policy, SFPD is authorized to use these robots to carry out deadly force in extremely limited situations when risk to loss of life to members of the public or officers is imminent and outweighs any other force option available. 2/5

Free speech must always be defended to the fullest. Those who seek to silence competing ideas invariably do so under the pretext of protecting the public from dangerous misinformation. But they are the ones endangering the public by imposing their own biases on all of society.

Incredible. As a data point: Arntz is one of only two public officials with the guts to present himself at SOTF instead of sending a lackey and the only official to comply with SOTF's orders to produce redistricting records (the Clerk and City Attorney produced nothing).

In a move that shocked San Francisco political observers, the Elections Commission has decided to not renew Elections Director John Arntz's term. Arntz oversaw four elections in 2022, and has been atop the department for 20 years. missionlocal.org/2022/11/electi From @esksf

1/ On Nov. 14, the Keller Independent School District board in Keller, Texas voted 4-2 to adopt a policy banning books in all public school libraries that reference 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐲. Keller ISD’s new restrictions violate the First Amendment. 🧵

Santa Clara Co considering prosecuting *one* Brown Act vio. Imagine if SF pols were held to any legal standard at all. Instead: corrupt & turn blind eye, backed by law-breakers like & . Remember this in their political legacy. ⚖️

The power of local journalism: @SJSpotlight's @nguyenntrann was the only journalist to report on the county's Brown Act violation when it secretly appointed its next CEO -- something she picked up on right away. And now the DA's office is taking action. sanjosespotlight.com/santa-clara-co

SOTF has ruled that & violated Admin Code 67.21b & 67.26 + ordered them to produce all remaining records re / . Critically, the dossier Boudin compiled on Lim and sent to Balko has still not been produced
Quote Tweet
These bother me further in the Marshall/Balko texts (separate from Lee/Balko). How or why was this document prepared and known about by Balko? Why did the DA's office not directly make all these allegations about Dion Lim if they wished to? And why "steer" Balko and not quote DA? twitter.com/journo_anon/st…

From . Good for the Examiner for continuing to push on abysmal state of Sunshine implementation in San Francisco. You all passed the strongest transparency laws in the country, and your representatives ignore it with no consequences.

SOTF announced Member passed away suddenly yesterday. This is a great loss for the public as she was consistently a strong protector of public's right of access, especially arguing that such rights were not dependent on who requesters were or why they made requests.

Last year, then-Assistant DA Brooke Jenkins sent police reports and a rap sheet to her colleague's personal email. Neither had a professional connection to the case. Sending a rap sheet to a person not authorized to receive it is a misdemeanor.

A government department with (a) a focus on law enforcement and (b) no genuine raison d'etre is a very dangerous thing. It will seek purpose by inventing things to enforce.

It's time to talk about shutting down the Department of Homeland Security. It was always a mistake, a costly artifact of the hysteric post-9/11 authoritarianism that left us no more safe, but much less free. Its plan to become the Speech Police is the final straw. Shut it down. twitter.com/ACLU/status/15…

San Francisco must give back a $15 million grant it received from the federal government to improve Market Street because it can't start construction by the required deadline -- which is three years away. Hey, that could have bought nine toilets!

On Nov. 2, SOTF will finally hear my complaint unlawfully selectively disclosed info to . Moreover, I will argue Boudin, through his rep, lied to SOTF on Oct 12, 2021 about a record, thus willfully violating the law & committing official misconduct.

I've voluntarily blocked the document - they apparently released a text between @chesaboudin's office and Balko, BUT now retracted portions, marked by me in red. So under Gov Code 6254.5 why can DA's office release witness contact info to Balko but not the rest of the public? twitter.com/journo_anon/st…
