Uhm, that’s a bold assertion. Care to back it up?

The Parthenon was destroyed during war with the Ottomans for example, if Greek marbles hadn't been taken who knows what would remain today. Or more recently with the monuments in Palmyra being destroyed by ISIS. The British Museum has, like it or not, preserved a lot of it.

Oh yes. The Elgin Marbles absolutely attest to what a great service of preservation England was offering.

So in circumstances where items of cultural value were 'rescued', shouldn't they be returned once the threat has gone? I'm sure James Acastor could do a routine along the lines of: "I rescued ur priceless vase when ur house burned down" "So can I have it back now?" "No"

It's not even a true take. Many artifacts suffered damage in transit, and also were restored improperly causing further damage.

"It's fine that someone stole your jewellery, they're probably going to take better care of it anyway." Hell of a take, pal.
