In 2016, Australian federal agents searched a private jet with big-time betters hoping to find evidence of money laundering. On board they found Ming Chai, the cousin of China’s top leader. Chai was a high roller, at one point spending $28 million at Australia's Crown casino

One of Chai’s business partners is a junket operator named Tom Zhou. Authorities suspect some of their companies of helping to facilitate the movement of large sums of $$ across borders. Zhou has been named civil and criminal cases in China. It's unclear if he has been back since
Zhou organized gambling tours for big betting Chinese clients and the Australian gov’t cleared the path, creating a fast-track visa approval and special “hotline.” It was used so frequently that one exec warned that its purpose was not for “last minute girlfriend additions.”
Since that search in 2016, Chai has been swept up in a sprawling investigation into organized crime, money laundering and immigration abuse that has rocked Australia. Local media including @Ageinvestigates first broke the story and have been dogged in uncovering new information
