But when he sued for injury compensation, #HK legal aid dept, not only unreasonably rejected his request but also prejudicially supported #HKpolicebrutality, saying "the use of force by the Police at the material time was reasonable" before trials and rulings even begin.pic.twitter.com/QcWfaYCNvH
3. Legal Aid Dept is heavily blasted for its tightening scrutiny on legal aid applications, esp for cases related to gov misconducts. But it is the first time for the dept to make such an irresponsible judgment before trials. Plaintiff doesn't even know the date of hearing yet.
4. Clearly, it is another assault on #HK's rule of law and judicial independence & also casts doubt on whether presumption of innocence still holds under # Beijing's sweeping #nationalsecuritylaw, where citizens/foreigners can be extradited to #China's secret courts and jails.
The legal aid department isn’t a court. Can they give a verdict whether the police’s force is reasonable? It’s nonsense that they reject the application by such an unreasonable excuse!
