A large chunk of Chiu's left ear was bitten off as he helped to stop a man from fleeing the scene of a knifing incident outside Cityplaza in Taikoo on November 3. Chiu said the part of the ear that had been reattached has since turned black and is decaying.
Writing on social media, Chiu said he is still in hospital following the attack and doctors will be removing the ear. Chiu condemned what he described as "murder attempts by pro-government forces".
