The HK gov is hiding behind the police, letting Hong Kongers fighting each other. China wouldnt care less, as the violence is making HK look bad and in time might lose int'l support. Protests might be more powerful if both sides refrain from violence.

Unfortunately that's never gonna happen. The police has been instigating violence since the beginning and they knew exactly what they were doing. That's what they want to make the protestors look bad.

Protestors standing their ground supported by residents and the majority of HK is great. But a society cannot live on knife-edge between two social forces for ever. Democratic control of the functioning of everyday society, production, transport has to be established ASAP
