2. The article by @thenation I shared earlier reflects the interesting impression by some on the left that traditionally Democrats have not been as outspoken as Republicans on China, but it no doubt overlooks many voices that should be heard and work that should be acknowledged.

3. I have met several times in the past with @SpeakerPelosi, who since the days of Tiananmen has consistently and unequivocally stood on the side of human rights in China. She is also an indispensable ally of Hong Kong’s movement for greater democracy and self-determination.

4. I will be forever grateful for the nomination of my friends @nathanlawkc, @alexchow18 and myself for the Nobel Peace Prize last year. That effort led by @marcorubio and @RepChrisSmith enjoyed the backing of a bipartisan, bicameral group of lawmakers.

5. I have also been following the Democratic presidential primaries. I appreciate @PeteButtigieg, @ewarren, @JulianCastro, @JoeBiden and @BetoORourke for speaking out on Hong Kong in the past month, as well as others who are warning about the threat of China’s authoritarianism.

6. At a time of deep political divisions in the U.S., I am thankful that safeguarding Hong Kongers’ freedoms is an issue that lawmakers across the political aisle can agree on.

7. As of now, the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act is sponsored by a total of nine Senators and ten House members, which include Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. I am optimistic about its prospect of passage in the near future.

8. While in prison, @nathanlawkc, @chowtingagnes and @jeffreychngo have sent me your personal regards, @RepMcGovern. Since my release three weeks ago, I have retrieved my passport and right to travel abroad. I look forward to visiting Washington very soon to meet with you again.
