18. Alas, Hong Kong is not a democracy. Lam, a puppet of BeijingC is also unlike any leader. The source of her power comes not from Hong Kongers but from the Chinese Communist Party. This brings me back to events yesterday.

the timing for change is pivotal for hk. A militarised totalitarist regime is not suited for this city. Last independent city for liberal thinkers and creators. Stay safe

Don't expect
@Joshuawongcf to answer (he's busy - others feel free): Why won't China wait until 2046 to legally take over? When I 1st visited HK in 1996, fear of China was tangible. 1997 handover began slow return to "normal" (if denial is normal). What am I missing? - Show replies

There are three paths for the future of Hong Kong: 1) CCP goes away and the whole China becomes a democracy, possibly a federal form (not in near future) 2) movement for an independent Hong Kong 3) independent Hong Kong & merger w/Taiwan until collapse of Communism in mainland

I guess none of de above. I guess China will abort both Taiwan and HK. Granting all 5 wishes. Done. Will never allow Chinese visit Taiwan and HK and vice versa. Not even de nearest Guangzhou and Macao. Mutual freedom and mutual respect.
