Alright. Inspired by this tweet, I decided to read all relevant preprints (about 30 in all). Here's what I've found, a thread. 1/15

I have about 1M other tasks I should be doing right now but mentioned X Files & I couldn't resist digging up this work I did at NARA in 2013 to support some internal digitization standards projects. This quiz has 4 parts & my nerd ❤️ loves them all. Thread: 1/11

Much of the way digital art is made is "self-destroying." Entire thread on the way computer- and software-embedded art originates with a breathtakingly soon end-of-life built in. It doesn't have to be this way. [This 1000% needs to be an article, if not a book.] via

Over 500 people in our Slack now. Good time to ask again about what folks might want from the space and how we can make it more useful for them. Also, just happy to see so much interest in the ethics and practice of archiving people on the web/social media

One of the things we're looking at for phase 2 is resurrecting early work on automated migration via emulation & adding chain migration. This would enable just-in-time migration at any point (as we'd have the emulated s/w anyway) rather than just-in-case, saving $

Why would you want to preserve individual emails when you can emulate them along with the context in which they were written? This is a huge win for understanding history as a living system

  12. Is it still art if artists can only use tools that are stable and would potentially last longer? Are anything digital designed to last longer than a few years?

AAC audio question: Packets in an mp4. No adts headers. 1st packet is indexed in stsz as 740 bytes long. This is correct in a hex reader. Next packet stsz shows is 708 bytes. Only showing 526 bytes in hex.... Rewrapped to .aac using ffmpeg creates a packet 708 bytes long. How?

Does anyone have any examples of succession plans for their digital content (i.e. for what would happen if their organisation ceased to exist). Is this anything that people have referenced from a policy?
