NYT seems to have set aside pretty much any pretense in its coverage of the Biden campaign https://nyti.ms/2ZGvfDm

To be clear on this, Biden’s the dominating front runner. He’ll get critical coverage and he has almost half a century of record. But the NYT’s coverage of this issue reads like what an opposing campaign might put together if they had a captive audience of people who knew ...

2/ nothing about the history of the 70s, 80s or 90s and cld tell a story accordingly. That makes sense for a rival campaign but seems a bit off for the Times.

he's running a defensive and cagey campaign, unwilling to accept any criticism or apologize for enormous categorical errors on key issues for this race that have defined his political career. nothing in the times' coverage of that has been unfair, inaccurate or disproportionate

his campaign can and probably does suck. but that’s not a justification for tendentious or misleading or incomplete reporting. the point of journalism remains to inform about things that happened not get even for what you might is an evil, bad, cagey campaign.

what did you find misleading? I'm certainly not a biden historian, but I found that piece in keeping with descriptions of his work on race & criminal justice in other outlets, not to mention an accurate reflection of his defensiveness during this campaign & leading up to it

I guess for starters it leaves out the crime wave of the late 20th century, which is one of two or three transformative events of post-war American politics and suggests that federal crime policy was the work of Joe Biden and a handful of Southern Sens in their ...

2/ 80s and 90s. It basically leaves out everything that was actually happening at the time at the state level, federal level, with Democratic Party politics, etc. it’s highly distorted no matter how much Biden may suck.

I guess I didn't read it that way. To me it didn't seem like that was a needed reminder, & I don't think the piece implied that biden was the only 1 to misjudge the appropriate response back then. but he is the one running for potus w/o taking responsibility for that record now.
