With Twitter spiraling down the drain, I've found I'm spending more time on Mastodon than here and my brain/mood is better for it.

Happy New Year!
Hope you all have a happy, healthy, and safe new year.
After 15 years on this site, I'm finding spending time away from here and more in the Fediverse has been beneficial to my brain.

Been off Twitter for about two weeks now. So much healthier. But as tonight is the beginning of Phishmas, gotta keep up the post.

Well, it's been a year. And though has only been in existence for 16% of the year (yes i did math), I'm immensely proud of the work we've manage to produce.

WOW. Whattayear. We got to publish a few scoops, a few investigations, and a few fun features.
We're still young and hungry but I'm immensely proud of the work Morning Brew has put out, from weedy privacy explainers to scoops about Twitter's, uh, fallout.
Some highlights!

It's the last working day of the year here at Morning Brew. ✨ That means I'm wrapping up my first year as a journalist & it's everything I've always wanted. Here's a few of my favorite stories in a year where I focused a lot on disability and DE&I 🧵

After almost 10 years with Gizmodo, I'm being made redundant. It's been an honor to work with such amazing, talented people for so long. I loved my job and I know that I was tremendously lucky to have it for as long as I did.

So it is now against Twitter's rules to tweet that you are at sporting event or concert because you didn't get consent of the athletes or musicians?

Wonder why Bourdain's signature is more valuable that Julia Child's?

For yrs, the default response to any change Twitter made was "this is terrible" and a few weeks/months would go by and we'd all be cool with new Twitter.
But this new Elon version of Twitter just continues to be ... bad.
Rollouts are a mess.

Went to see what would happen if I went to “boost” this ad, to give money to a Twitter to promote it.
I cannot. Hope it’s because of the word “advertiser” or “money” and not “LGBTQ”

In 1972, the highest federal income tax bracket was taxed at 70%. Today it's 37%. My dad's pension has been replaced, for me, by a mutual fund with "company match." The Voting Rights Act is functionally dead. 1/3 of workers were represented by a union in 1972, now it's 1/10. twitter.com/timmyf/status/…
