Just in time for the holiday - Parents vs 10 year old on Five Classic Christmas movies. There is much arguing and far more Christmas spirit than expected.

  4. Read the script in that link. Read it and tell me that anybody else could not just pull that story off BUT make it a huge SATISFYING emotional payoff for ELEVEN issues worth of stories. Comics is incredibly lucky to have him because if Hollywood caught on they’d kidnap him away.

  5. I don’t think it gets said enough but Dan is far and away the best writer in mainstream comics. The amount of thought and empathy in his books — combined with a sense of fun that’s completely unrivaled. The few times I got to work near him was humbling to say the least.

This (& rest of the thread) is just one part of my 'damage' left behind. I've been uncomfortable to do podcasts/record songs because my vocal folds are damaged. This is life changing to those who use their voice. I'm not sure if I'll even try to stream again. I feel different.

  14. No matter what the anyone tells you THIS IS REAL. Half a million people are dead and untold millions more don’t know what they’ll find as an after effect like I did. Please. Be decent. Be thoughtful. Be human. Get vaccinated.

  16. Now after all of this we came to the heart breaking part. This is the status quo for the foreseeable future. So, getting the the vaccine today is a reminder of what I lost in the past year. And how lucky I am that it was ultimately fairly minor.

  17. Actual damaged tissue on the “outside” of my vocal folds. The part of the vocal cords that open and close to make sound. We tried steroids, we tried “voice rest,” and extensive voice therapy. And it just never went away.

  18. My wife pointed out that I was pitchy. And not just pitchy but struggling to even get notes out. Over the following weeks it became increasingly apparent that there was something wrong with my throat. I wound up at an ENT with tubes stuck everywhere where they found... scars.

  19. So, I solved it with some tech solutions, rearranged my desk etc. Throughout the last year or two I’ve been teaching myself to play piano. I am not a good pianist, but I can sing and just relax and enjoy myself for an hour and that’s irreplaceable.

  21. A few weeks later, I was over it. The asthma never went away. Nor did the sore throat. Covid hit, tests came out - it was maybe six weeks out or more from when I got better - so my test came up clean - and there weren’t antibody tests yet.
