Can East Herts explain why they’re challenging this decision by the Planning Inspectorate in particular and are not challenging the decision on the Gasworks site on Marshgate drive?

Gassworks was already identified as a development site in the district plan. No comparison there at all.

Gasworks specified for 200 homes in district plan. Application was denied by EHDC due to overdevelopment, planning inspectorate overturned that decision and EHDC said they would not challenge. Point stands - why challenge inspectorates decision on this site and not on Gasworks?

I sit on planning committee and I agree the gasworks was not ideal. But was a legal site. GW developer challenges our decision and won. Hadam was an illegally developed site without approval. Totally different scenario.

I’m glad you agree re Gasworks site, and I understand the situation surrounding Hadham. I think some clarity on why Gasworks was unchallenged beyond just “legal advice” would be beneficial, especially for the many people who campaigned against the development...

My advice.would be to seek an answer from your ward councillor on that. As they can ask the officers for an explanation. Personally I didn't agree with what was put in front of us in terms of numbers. It was way out of proportion.

Thanks for your advice and I will write to my councillor. I agree in terms of numbers as 375 homes is quite a jump from 200. My hope would be there’d be wiggle room in the District Plan - if more homes are built here, perhaps there could be less built elsewhere?
