2/ Some politicians going on social media and TV saying California is this wonderful progressive island makes invisible the 2 of 5 Californians who live in or near poverty and it ignores the truth of the 1 of 4 Californians who make less than $12.50 per hour...
3/ To the 3 of 4 Californians who couldn't handle a $700 surprise expense, California is deeply regressive and life is filled with constant stress and uncertainty. Self-congratulations about how progressive California is dehumanizes the truth of these 3 of 4 Californians.
4/ The truth is: California is a very hard place for everyone who is not rich. California has the highest poverty rate in America according to the U.S. Census Bureaus's Supplemental Measure of Poverty.
5/ California could be the amazing progressive place that some on social media and TV describe it to be - but it is far from that place now. And to say opposite is to dehumanize and deny the truth of the 3 of 4 Californians who struggle every day with jobs that pay too little.
6/ The cause for hope is we didn't get to this place on accident or because of forces beyond our control. We got here because we allowed our economy to become controlled by Monopolies and their money. That means though that different policy choices can create a better future.
7/ We have to get Monopoly money out of politics and campaigns so we can ensure everyone plays by the same rules, so we can create a tax code that rewards work and so we can make basic needs affordable.
8/ Rewarding work means more #EITC, a minimum wage that is a living wage (yes, $25) & ending the gender wage gap by ratifying the ERA. Making basic needs affordable means #MedicareForAll, building transportation from where people live to where jobs are and creating more housing.

If there’s only wealthy people, who and what will supply the services? Like nannies, house cleaners, yards keepers, waitstaff and dishwashers at restaurants, grocery store clerks...even teachers, police officers, fire fighters..
